In 2007 the R1 was in its third year as a two door kei car on a shorter body and wheelbase than the R2, which was compared in promotion to the Subaru 360, the first production Subaru. It had the EN07U SOHC engine in the I, the EN07D DOHC in the R and the supercharged and intercooled EN07X in the STi, and it served as the base for the experimental R1e electric car. The R1 is a kei car manufactured by the Japanese carmaker Subaru.
