The ninth generation Lancer was officially revealed in January 2007 at the North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North American markets in March 2007 as a 2008 model, with Mitsubishi's next generation RISE safety body. In Malaysia the Lancer was launched in August 2007 in a sole GT variant, in Europe a diesel was available from 2007 to September 2010, and it was sold in Japan as the Galant Fortis.
