After skipping the 2006 model year, Ford released the second generation Sport Trac as a 2007 model with a redesigned frame and new safety features including stability control and active rollover protection. It took the four wheel independent suspension of the Explorer, and had a 4.0 litre V6 or an optional 292 horsepower 4.6 litre V8. All production came from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, where it took the place of the Ranger.
