In 2004 Mazda introduced the Verisa in Japan, a car based on the Demio and Mazda2 but aimed further upmarket. The European trim levels TS and TS2 were renamed Antares and Capella that year. The Mazda2 was sold in New Zealand with a 1.5 liter ZY-VE four cylinder engine, and in Europe it still used the Ford built Sigma petrol engine and Mazda's 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines together with the Ford 1.4 diesel, in cars assembled by Ford in Valencia.
