In 2003 the daytime running lights of the Alero were changed from high beam to low beam. The Alero experienced minimal changes during its five year run, and most of these changes were either in choice of engines or options. It remained a compact sedan or coupe in GX, GL or GLS trim, sharing its chassis with the Pontiac Grand Am, and a 2.4 liter four or 3.4 liter V6 was fitted. The Alero was in the fifth model year of its run.
