The 2002 MDX kept the 240 horsepower 3.5 litre V6 and the VTM-4 all-wheel-drive system it had launched with, and the cargo floor could be flipped up to give two extra seats in a third row, which suited only small passengers. Buyers of the 2002 car had to choose between the navigation system and the DVD entertainment system, because the two could not be ordered together that year. The MDX was built in Alliston, Ontario.
