After a development period of 22 months, contrary to the planned 12 to 18 months, and at a cost of 60 million Australian dollars, Holden launched the V2 series Monaro based on the VX series Commodore. It was available as the CV6, with a 3.8 liter supercharged V6, along with the CV8, featuring the 5.7 liter LS1 V8 with a choice of a six speed manual or a four speed automatic. The Monaro returned in November 2001.
