In July 2000 the turbo diesel of the Prado was replaced by the newly developed 3.0 liter 1KD-FTV, a common rail direct injection unit marketed as D-4D. Toyota attributed its performance to four valve cylinder heads. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (second generation, J90), 1996 to 2001, and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (third generation, J120) came next, following the 1999 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado run from 1990 to 2026.
