For model year 1999 the Prowler's engine was upgraded to a more powerful aluminum block version of the 3.5 liter V6 with 253 horsepower, up from 214. This cut the 0 to 60 time to about 5.9 seconds, and the top speed, still electronically limited, rose to 126 miles per hour for the 1999 to 2002 models. The more powerful V6 was coupled with the four speed Autostick semi automatic transmission mounted at the rear, and the car now reached 60 miles per hour in about 5.9 seconds.
