The GMT800 Silverado and Sierra 1500 and 2500 pickup trucks were released in August 1998 as 1999 models. The Sierra shares mechanical commonality with the identically related Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet, having branded its full size line as Sierras from the 1988 GMT400 architecture. The classic GMT400 trucks continued for the first two years.
