The third generation Toppo was sold from October 1998. It was now called the Mitsubishi Toppo BJ, for Big Joy, and the model name was no longer tied to the Minica in its marketing. Kei car rules had changed again in 1998, so the third generation was widened and lengthened to match. The Toppo BJ was a tall light recreational vehicle derived from the Minica kei car. In Japan the Toppo was sold at a specific retail chain called Galant Shop.
