In 1998 the Mini was in its third year of the Mark VII, twin point injection with a front mounted radiator, produced by the Rover Group at Longbridge. The Metro, which had been designed to replace the Mini, had ceased production two and a half years before the Mini's end, and the Mini outlived it, a distinction the car had held since 1980. The Metro had been built until 1997. It remained in production at Longbridge, with the Cooper at its top.
