Toward the end of the 1990s Ford began to phase out the use of the Econoline and Club Wagon nameplates, and the van of 1998 still carried them before the renaming of 1999. It had the revised exterior and interior of 1997, with an all new dashboard and dual airbags. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
