The Prowler went on sale for the 1997 model year as a Plymouth, a hot rod roadster with open front wheels. It used the 214 horsepower 24 valve 3.5 liter V6 from the LH cars with an Autostick transaxle at the rear. The 1997 car reached 60 miles per hour in about 7.2 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 118 miles per hour. It was the first rear drive Plymouth since the 1989 Gran Fury, and critics faulted it for having a V6 engine instead of a V8.
