New value priced base models were introduced in late 1997 for both the Contour and the Mystique, and for the Mystique an optional CD player and power front seats on the GS, standard on the LS, were offered. Traction control was dropped as an option and the steering wheel now tilted. Monochromatic bumper strips were removed altogether, and heated mirrors and remote fuel door release were dropped. It was sold in GS and LS trims with a Zetec four or Duratec V6.
