The B series of 1997 was in its thirteenth year of the fourth generation, with the B3400 from 1997 in South Africa, using the 3.4 liter Ford Essex V6 of 147 PS, and the B2500 of Thailand with the 2.5 liter WL engine of 94 horsepower. The fifth generation would follow in 1998. In Australia and New Zealand the B series was named the Mazda Bravo and Mazda Bounty, respectively.
