The MX-6 of 1996 was the second to last model year of a sport compact coupe that had been on sale since 1987. It was built on the GE platform shared with the 626 and the Ford Probe, with the GE2 update of 1994 and the OBD-II diagnostics fitted after 1995. The Flat Rock plant in Michigan supplied North America, and Japanese plants supplied Asia and Europe. Four wheel steering was used on MX-6 GT and GE models from 1987 to 1998.
