The MX-6 lasted until 1997, and the last one rolled off the assembly line on 20 June 1997, with the last few leaving dealers in 1998. It had been manufactured by Mazda for ten years across two generations on the same chassis as the Capella and 626 and the Ford Probe and Telstar. It was built at Flat Rock in Michigan by AutoAlliance International for North America and in Japan for the Asian and European markets. The MX-6 was mechanically identical to the Ford Probe, the Capella and 626, and the Ford Telstar.
