The MS-8 of 1996 was in its fifth year, an Efini luxury sedan with a hardtop style body and a thick lower B pillar that gave more rigidity while keeping an airy cabin. The car had a front passenger seatbelt tensioner unit in the rear passenger doors, with the belt latch on the front headrest support arm, so that the belt could be positioned properly when the headrest was adjusted. The MS-8 was a replacement to the Mazda Persona and Eunos 300.
