Introduced in 1995, the seventh generation Lancer reverted to a cost saving rebadge of the Mirage sedan with minor cosmetic tweaks, following the collapse of the Japanese asset price bubble. Despite those savings it spawned three World Rally Championship winning iterations, the Lancer Evolution IV, V and VI. Australia and the Philippines both marketed the Mirage Asti coupe under the Lancer badge. In Japan the Lancer was sold at Galant Store dealers and the Mirage at Car Plaza.
