The Galaxy began production in May 1995, a joint venture product of Ford and the Volkswagen Group that was built in Portugal and also sold as the Volkswagen Sharan and the SEAT Alhambra. Trims at launch were the Aspen and the GLX, with the Ghia following a few months later. It was slotted between the Tourneo Connect and the Tourneo Custom in the Ford range, and was the first Ford brand people carrier made outside North America.
