The Scrum of 1994 was in its fourth year as the second generation, a kei van and truck sold in Japan by Mazda through its Autozam channel and supplied by Suzuki, with the van having its engine under the load floor in a mid engine layout. It used a three cylinder SOHC engine in a 61 PS turbocharged form or in naturally aspirated forms of 50 PS and 42 PS. The Scrum was an OEM version of the Suzuki Every and Carry from the start.
