In September 1994 the GE2 update model of the MX-6 was released, the main revision of the second generation. The car remained a sport compact coupe on the GE platform shared with the 626, the Ford Probe and the Ford Telstar, built in Michigan for North America by AutoAlliance International, which Ford and Mazda ran together, and in Japan for the Asian and European markets, and it kept the optional four wheel steering in markets other than the United States.
