The Lantis premiered in August 1993 as a series of two sports compact cars, a five door hatchback that Mazda called a four door coupe and a sedan, on the CB platform related to the Eunos 500 and the 1994 Capella. By the time the cars premiered Mazda's multi brand strategy had become difficult to sustain, so both Lantis variants were released to Mazda, Efini and Eunos dealerships. Abroad it was the 323F and the Astina.
