The 1992 model year was the last year of the GLS, and it and its Topaz counterpart were discontinued in 1993, which left the Tempo with only two trim level options, GL and LX. The Vulcan V6 remained available. The Tempo was by now in the last two years of its life, a compact car overshadowed by the larger Taurus and by Ford's plans to replace its sedan with the Contour developed from the Mondeo. The LX was now the top Tempo trim.
