The second generation Festiva was launched in 1993, developed jointly by Kia and Ford with a longer, wider and more aerodynamic body, MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam axle behind. In Taiwan the sedan was sold as a Festiva, and in Korea it became the Kia Avella. The Festiva was a small Mazda designed hatchback that Ford sold in several markets, some of them under other names. Kia in South Korea built most of the cars sold under the Festiva and Aspire names, and sold the same design as the Pride and the Avella.
