Volkswagen marketed rear engined vans in the United States until 1991, while Chevrolet and GMC and Dodge had both adopted the Econoline layout of mid engined vans for the 1964 model year. The 1991 Econoline was the last of the third generation of Ford's full size van. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
