The second generation minivans, on the AS platform, were the first minivans with driver side airbags, in 1991. They had a larger rear window and a center brake lamp at its base, refined handling over the first generation with a four wheel disc or front disc rear drum brake setup depending on trim, and the 5 speed manual transmission was initially deleted for 1991. The Dodge Caravan came in base, SE, LE and ES trims in standard and Grand wheelbase.
