Toyota introduced the fourth generation Tercel in September 1990. For the 1990 model year the Tercel Wagon was discontinued in North America, having been upgraded to the larger platform used for the Corolla and Sprinter Carib, and non motorized two point passive seatbelts for the front seats were introduced in 1990 in the United States only. This was the first model year of the Toyota Tercel (fourth generation, L40), 1990 to 1994, which took over from the Toyota Tercel (third generation, L30); the 1991 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Tercel run from 1978 to 1999.
