The hardtop range continued to be available until 1990 as Mitsubishi's most luxurious offering in most export markets, until the Sigma and Diamante replaced it. For 1990 the V3000 was further updated with the front styling of the Eterna hardtop. The Galant name was highly regarded in Japan and was resurrected for the 1990 Mitsubishi GTO coupe, with a third, more compact coupe on a shortened chassis. The name Galant comes from the French word for chivalrous.
