The Galant range underwent a minor facelift in 1991, with new grilles and other modifications. The widened Australian made version remained in production until 1991 when it was replaced by a new generation Magna, while the Japanese hardtop range was produced until it was replaced. NHTSA crash test ratings exist for the 1991 to 1992 Galant, the last years of the sixth generation. The Galant competed with the Toyota Corona, Nissan Bluebird, Honda Accord and Mazda Capella.
