The BRAT of 1988 was in its eleventh year, sold as the Brumby in Australia and New Zealand and as the MV Pickup or Shifter in the United Kingdom, built for export only after North American imports ceased in 1987. The BRAT was a popular grey import vehicle in Japan, where Subaru never sold it. The BRAT was four wheel drive and powered by the Subaru EA engine. It was an export only model, never officially sold in Japan, and became a popular grey import there.
