In February 1988 the hardtop of the Galant Sigma was limited to the turbo of the Cyclone DASH 3x2 engine and a VX Extra with a four cylinder 1.8 liter was added, while the sedan, taxi included, took the SAE square four headlamps. From 1988 to 1990, for the 1989 and 1990 model years, the sedan bodywork of the Galant was sold in North America as the Mitsubishi Sigma, after the earlier Galant Sigma name. The Greek letter Sigma in the Galant Sigma name was meant to mean a summing up of the effort of the maker.
