The 1986 Fiero arrived on September 12, 1985 without the GT, since the previous year's GT became the 1986 SE and the 1986 GT was delayed until January 3, 1986. This was the first time the fastback roofline was offered, sometimes called a 1986 and a half model, and when the fastback roof style was unveiled in February 1984 some people believed it was a new Corvette. The Muncie and Getrag five speed transaxle arrived in June 1986.
