The third generation was redesigned in November 1986, with a new front end with lower, wider headlamps. For Japanese buyers the 1.8 petrol was replaced with a 2 liter version of the same, while a diesel engined 4WD version was new. In 1986 four wheel drive became an option for the 4.7 meter long model in Australia. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
