The estate van of the previous Eterna was built until 1985, and then merged into the Mirage van and the Lancer van. The Eterna of 1985 was in its third year as the third generation, a sedan and a hardtop sold at the Car Plaza stores, as the sister of the Galant, with the image character the actor Ken Takakura, who also did the Galant Sigma, as in the first years of this generation. The name Eterna is Italian for eternal, and the Sigma in the name was meant to mean a summing up.
