In 1984 the first generation Laser continued in Australia as the KB and Meteor GB, in New Zealand as a hatchback and sedan, and in Taiwan from knock down kits supplied to a local joint venture. It also sold in Argentina, in the Caribbean and in Mexico, where the front end was different from other markets. The Laser was a Ford badged version of the Mazda Familia, and it was one of the smaller cars in the Ford range of that period.
