The Nova launched in April 1983 following a seven month long union dispute caused by British workers' anger over the car being built in Spain, in contrast to the rival Ford Fiesta and Austin Metro. The first customers in the United Kingdom took delivery of their cars in April 1983, and the Nova effectively replaced the aging Chevette, which finished production in January 1984. The Nova was built in Spain and sold in the United Kingdom.
