The new generation Econoline of 1982 would become common not only in its own right but as the basis for other vehicles, using a full frame as its chassis. It was a van that Ford made at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake and at Lorain Assembly, and its drivetrain was shared with F Series trucks. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
