The Challenger and its Plymouth Sapporo twin were redesigned for 1981, with revised bodywork that gave more foot room, headroom and trunk space and better soundproofing. It was still a small imported coupe with a four cylinder engine rated between 77 and 105 horsepower, now with a more modern shape than the car it replaced. In all, the Challenger and the Sapporo were sold until 1983, when they were replaced by the Conquest.
