In February 1980 the 2.2 liter diesel engine appeared in the passenger version, the Bongo Multi Wagon. The Bongo Multi Wagon had originally been sold with a 1.8 liter petrol engine only. The Bongo of 1980 was in its fourth year of the second generation, and the best selling Mazda until 1981. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
