For 1980 the Monte Carlo received a mild frontal restyle, with quad headlights and turn indicators mounted beneath. The metric 200 three speed automatic transmission became standard on all models, and a new Chevrolet built 229 cubic inch V6 replaced both the 200 cubic inch V6 of 1979 and the Buick V6. A new option for 1980 was Buick's turbocharged 231 cubic inch V6 rated at 170 horsepower, and 13,839 turbo Monte Carlos were built in 1980.
