For 1980 a mid cycle refresh replaced the complex rear window of the coupe with a more upright, nearly flat piece of glass, though the overall design stayed similar. From 1980 the inline six was replaced by a 229 cubic inch V6 from Chevrolet, which differed from the Buick 3.8 liter V6 used in many General Motors models. The Chevrolet 229 cubic inch V6 that replaced the inline six was a different engine from the 231 cubic inch V6 from Buick that was installed in numerous General Motors models of different divisions.
