For 1979 the interior underwent further updating, as the Mercury sourced dashboard received additional wood trim. The 460 V8 was deleted from the Lincoln model line entirely, leaving the 400 V8 as the sole engine. A Collector's Series was offered for 1979, and 1979 was the last year of the fifth generation before the extensive downsizing of the Continental for 1980. The Town Car trim and the Collector's Series were among its editions.
