The trim lines were rearranged for 1978, with a base model to which buyers could add Custom and Premier option packages. The Volaré and Aspen kit car honoring Richard Petty and the Super Coupe package with a 360 four barrel engine were offered, and wider taillight lenses with amber turn signals were fitted. Production was 217,795 Volarés, as sales fell over 30 percent. The 360 V8 with a four barrel carburetor was also offered for the first time that year, notably in the Super Coupe package.
