The sister car Galant Lambda Eterna, later called the Eterna Lambda, was launched in March 1978, with different badges, grille and lamps, for the new Car Plaza dealer channel. In April the 1600 GS and 2000 GSR, which met only the 1976 rules, were dropped, and a partial change followed in November 1978. The Sapporo name was used in Europe and South America for the same car. The Sapporo was named after the Sapporo Olympics.
