The 2.3 liter Cologne V6 engine was introduced in 1977 above the 2.0 liter Pinto engine already used in the Capri and Granada ranges, though 2.3 liter Cortinas never sold particularly well in Britain. The Mark IV also introduced the first Ghia, replacing the 2000E as the top model, in a range of base, L, GL, S and Ghia trims with eight spoke steel sports wheels standard on the GL, S and Ghia, and alloy wheels offered as an extra cost option for the Ghia. The dashboard was carried over intact from the last of the Mark III Cortinas.
