For 1976 the Cougar saw minor revisions to the interior: the seats underwent a redesign, with a full width bench seat becoming standard, and a 60/40 split bench seat became an option alongside the bucket seat interior. It was the last of the third generation, a two door coupe on the 114 inch wheelbase with a roofline similar to the Thunderbird. It had six passenger seating and the Twin Comfort Lounge split bench seat. The Cougar was an XR-7 coupe on the rear wheel drive Montego and Torino chassis, with a vinyl roof and opera windows.
