The pickup was based on medium sized Ford passenger cars, which were originally the Cortina and the Taunus and from 1988 the Sierra. In 1976 it was a Cortina Mk3 based coupe utility, built in South Africa and sold there as the Cortina Pickup, with a bodywork like the Cortina. The P100 was a coupe utility pickup that Ford built on the front half of a family car, sold first in South Africa and then in Europe. It began as the Cortina Pickup and ended in 1995 on the Sierra, built in Portugal.
