For 1975 the Gran Torino prefix was dropped and the Elite became a stand alone model name. It came with a 351 cubic inch V8 engine and a three speed automatic as standard equipment, with power brakes and power steering, and with a vinyl roof with twin opera windows. It sold in third place among its personal luxury rivals in each of its three model years. The Elite was a mid size two door coupe offered by Ford in North America, sold above the Torino and below the Thunderbird.
